Basic, Traditional Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups sifted AP flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
12 oz. package of chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts, optional

Cream together butter, sugars and vanilla until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs. Sift together flour, soda and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture, mixing until well blended. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts.

Bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes or until lightly browned.

Makes about 5 dozen 3" cookies.
